PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Rhode Island nonprofit is continuing its mission to support families in need, assembling hundreds of Easter baskets ahead of the holiday.

Community Angels volunteers recently put together about 800 baskets that will be distributed to families across the state, continuing a tradition that has grown significantly over the years.

Hundreds of Easter baskets assembled in just days

Organizers say the baskets were completed in roughly three days using an assembly-line process powered by a small but dedicated group of volunteers.

The effort is led by Community Angels, a nonprofit founded more than 17 years ago. What began as a small initiative distributing about 50 baskets has expanded into an annual effort reaching hundreds, and in some years more than 1,000 families.

What families can expect

Each basket includes a mix of items designed to bring both fun and practical support.

Children receive baskets filled with toys, candy, and small gifts, while teens and adults receive items such as hygiene products and personal care essentials.

The baskets are handed out during open community events, allowing families to attend without registration and pick up items in a simple, accessible format.

A community-driven effort

The organization relies on a network of volunteers, sponsors, and community partners to carry out the project each year.

Leadership says the mission is rooted in bringing joy to families, especially during holidays when financial pressures can make it harder to celebrate.

Many volunteers have been involved for years, and some say they were once recipients of the same support, now giving back to others in similar situations.

Easter event set in Providence

This year’s distribution event is scheduled to be held Friday, April 3, at Mi Sueno Restaurant located at 1070 Broad St. in Providence.

Children must be present to receive a basket, and organizers say the event will also feature opportunities for photos with the Easter Bunny.
