Just steps from the sand and sea breeze of Narragansett Town Beach, Shoreline Books is more than just a bookstore—it’s a love letter to the coastal town it calls home.

Opened in 2018 by lifelong Rhode Islander Rachel Moretti, Shoreline Books was born from a simple dream: create a space where books, creativity, and community could come together. After spending years working in publishing in New York City, Rachel decided to trade subway rides for ocean walks and bring her vision to life back in her hometown. The result is a bookstore that feels both timeless and unmistakably local.

Step inside, and you’ll find the kind of place that instantly makes you want to slow down. Wooden shelves line the walls, packed with handpicked titles—everything from beach reads and literary fiction to children’s picture books and regional favorites. A table in the center displays staff picks with handwritten notes, while a cozy corner near the window invites you to grab a cup of tea and get lost in a few pages before heading back out into the salt air.

But it’s not just the books that make Shoreline special. It’s the heart behind it.

Rachel makes a point to carry titles from local authors and illustrators and regularly hosts “Meet the Author” nights featuring Rhode Island voices. Every Saturday, she runs a storytime hour for kids, which has quickly become a beloved tradition for local families. During the summer, she organizes Books & Beachwalks—casual, themed group walks followed by discussion and refreshments on the back patio. It’s one of many ways Shoreline blends literature and lifestyle.

During the pandemic, Rachel pivoted to offer free local delivery, personalized book bundles, and virtual author chats, all while keeping the shop afloat on community support. “We had people buying gift cards just to keep us going. It reminded me why I opened this place to begin with—it wasn’t just about books. It was about belonging,” she shared.

The shop also supports local artists and artisans. The front table always has a rotating mix of handmade bookmarks, journals, candles, and beach-inspired artwork—all made by creatives from right here in the Ocean State. And when the holiday season rolls around, the shop transforms into a cozy winter nook, complete with hot cider, gift-wrapping stations, and a curated gift guide filled with local treasures.

Whether you’re a year-round resident or just passing through on a weekend getaway, Shoreline Books is the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression. It’s the type of business every town hopes to have: welcoming, authentic, and deeply rooted in its community.

As Rachel puts it, “Books connect us. They help us understand the world—and each other. If Shoreline can play even a small role in that here in Narragansett, then I’ve done my job.”

  • Yard in need of some heavy-duty pruning? This small but mighty chain saw is powerful enough to take down tree branches, yet weighs under 2.5 pounds.
  • This baby will sear proteins and veggies like a champ, but its smoke-control system means you won’t be breathing in soot while you cook. • Let’s avoid a tiki torch incident this summer, yeah? These will illuminate your yard, patio or pool area with a warm glow that’ll also allow guests to see which flavor of seltzer they’re grabbing from the cooler.
