BOSTON, M.A. — The Boston Bruins welcomed the Blackstone Valley Co-op hockey team to their Monday practice at Warrior Ice Arena.
Players sat along the glass and cheered as Bruins skaters took the ice.
Team rallies after tragedy
The visit comes after a devasating incident last month.
Team captain Colin Dorgan was playing in his senior night game at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket when his mother, brother and grandfather were killed in a shooting in the crowd.
Since then, the team has supported Dorgan while continuing its season
Championship run brings moment of joy
Despite the tragedy, Blackstone went on to win its first state title.
The team captured the Rhode Island Division II championship at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence.
Dorgan played a key role in that run.
He scored four goals in three games. He also tied the title game late in regulation, forcing overtime. Teammate Jaxon Boyes later scored the game-winning goal.
Earlier in the playoffs, Dorgan scored a double-overtime winner in the semifinals against Portsmouth.
Bruins provide memorable experience
After practice, players joined Bruins members on the bench and toured the facility. They also met players, took photos and signed autographs.
Looking ahead
Dorgan plans to attend Bryant University next year.
Meanwhile, the team’s visit to Boston served as a reminder of how sports can bring people together during difficult times.
