PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence College has named Bryan Hodgson as the new head coach of its men’s basketball program.
Hodgson becomes the program’s 17th head coach. He replaces Kim English, who was let go earlier this month after the Friars’ loss to St. John’s in the Big East Tournament.

Strong record at South Florida
Hodgson comes from the South Florida Bulls men’s basketball, where he led the team to a standout season.
The Bulls finished 25-9 and won both the American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
That run earned South Florida an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, marking the program’s first appearance since the 2011-12 season.
However, their season ended with an 83-79 loss to Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball in the opening round.
Previous coaching experience
Before South Florida, Hodgson spent two seasons at Arkansas State Red Wolves men’s basketball.
During that time, he compiled a 45-28 record and helped build a competitive program.
College leadership reacts
Providence College President Reverend Kenneth Sicard praised the hire in a statement.
He said Hodgson brings strong leadership and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
