EAST GREENWICH, R.I. — Police and school officials are investigating after antisemitic graffiti was found at multiple schools in East Greenwich.
According to Superintendent Dr. Thomas Kenworthy, the graffiti was discovered at Hanaford Elementary School, Cole Middle School and East Greenwich High School.
Incident follows recent graffiti case
The discovery comes just weeks after racist graffiti was reported at Eldredge Elementary School.
District leaders say the incidents are concerning and unaceptable.
Kenworthy said schools must remain safe and welcoming for all students, staff and families.
Graffiti found inside high school bathroom
High school Principal Patricia Page said antisemitic symbols and comments were found inside a boys’ bathroom.
She called the behavior offensive and a clear violation of school policies.
The graffiti has since been removed, but administrators said the impact remains.
Investigation and response underway
School officials are working with local authorities to investigate.
Anyone responsible will face discipline under school rules and state law, according to the district.
Officials also say the response will go beyond punishment.
Schools plan education efforts
The high school plans to introduce “No Place for Hate” lessons.
These lessons will focus on antisemitism, bias and the harm caused by hateful language.
Administrators are also asking parents to talk with their children about respect and inclusion.
Other instances of antisemitism at Rhode Island schools
In October 2025, the family of a Smithfield High School student alleged he was targeted in an antisemitic hazing incident.
Rhode Island state officials launched an investigation into the claims, which were denied by the other students.
