WOONSOCKET, R.I. — A Mount Saint Charles Academy student is facing a second-degree sexual assault charge after an alleged encounter involving another student inside the school.

According to court records, 19-year-old Oluwasegun Sanni, a basketball player at the private school, is accused in connection with a complaint reported to police on March 17.

Investigators say the case involves a 15-year-old female student and stems from an incident that allegedly took place on campus last week.

Police said the student went to the Woonsocket Police Department with her mother to make the report.

In statements to police, the student said she had been waiting alone in a hallway near the girls locker room when she was approached by Sanni. She told officers she was moved away from a hallway camera and cornered.

The student reported that she was grabbed and kissed without her consent. She said she told him to stop and attempted to push him away but was unable to because of his size. Police documents list Sanni at 6 feet 9 inches tall and approximately 214 pounds.

Authorities say the student described the behavior as out of character and said he walked away after the encounter. Police also noted that a friend later messaged Sanni about the incident, which he denied happened.

Sanni appeared in court Monday for arraignment and did not enter a plea. A judge ordered a non-domestic no contact order and released him on $25,000 personal recognizance.

In a statement, Mount Saint Charles Academy said it is aware of a serious allegation involving two students. School officials said the situation was reported to authorities and that they are cooperating fully, while limiting further comment due to privacy concerns.

The case remains under investigation.
