PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Two people, including the suspected gunman were killed, and three others were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a shooting Monday afternoon during a youth hockey game at Lynch Arena, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at the indoor ice rink on Andrew D. Ferland Way, where a 2 p.m. game was scheduled between the Coventry–Johnston co-op team and a combined squad made up of students from St. Raphael Academy, Providence Country Day School, North Providence, and North Smithfield. At least one of the victims was a woman and the suspect was a man, adding that the shooting appeared to stem from a family-related dispute. A second victim later died at the hospital. Don Grebien described the shooting as tragic and said it appeared to be an isolated incident.

Authorities said the conditions of the three hospitalized victims were unknown as of late afternoon, and no names had been released. Video from a livestream of the game captured the moment gunfire erupted from the stands, with more than a dozen shots heard in rapid succession. Players and spectators can be seen fleeing the ice and seating area as the game was abruptly halted.
