KINGSTON, R.I. — An arrest has been made in a voyeurism case at the University of Rhode Island (URI) following an investigation into reported incidents inside residence hall showers on campus.

University police said 18-year-old Evan Alexander Bouphavong, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was taken into custody on March 16 in connection with alleged unlawful recordings.

Arrest follows campus investigation

According to the University of Rhode Island Police Department, officers worked with the Woonsocket Police Departmentto serve an arrest warrant around 5 p.m.

Bouphavong faces two counts of video voyeurism. He was arrested in Woonsocket and later processed on the Kingston campus before being arraigned before a justice of the peace.

Police said no additional details are being released at this time in order to protect the privacy of potential victims and preserve the integrity of the ongoing case.

Incidents reported in campus residence halls

The investigation began after two separate incidents were reported earlier in March.

  • The first occurred on March 6 in a shower area at Browning Hall
  • The second was reported on March 9 in a shower at Butterfield Hall

Authorities said a male suspect entered the shower areas and attempted to record individuals while they were inside.

Investigation remains ongoing

University police previously issued a campus alert about the incidents.

Officials say the case is still under investigation and have not released further information.
