NARRAGANSETT, R.I. — The 2025 Blessing of the Fleet is here! The event was started by the Narragansett Lions Club in 1972 as a one-day ceremony in Galilee to honor and bless the local fishing fleet. Every July, commercial and recreational watercraft gather as a local clergyman bless each and every vessel as they pass along the breachway
Over time the event turned into a three-day celebration, adding a 10 mile road race in the process.
- The festival is held Thursday through Saturday at Memorial Square in Narragansett (adjacent to The Towers), and includes food vendors, games, rides, live music, and a beer and wine tent.
- On Friday, runners and walkers compete along a scenic Narragansett course, passing through historic town areas toward the pier. The 10-mile route serves as both competitive and charitable with proceeds going to local causes.
- On Saturday, clergy bless commercial and recreational boats as they parade past spectators along the breachway. There’s also an optional boat decoration contest, where captains design themed vessels.
What began in 1972 as a heartfelt blessing for local fishermen has evolved into one of Rhode Island’s most iconic events. The Blessing of the Fleet honors the town’s fishing legacy, brings vibrant festivities to Narragansett Pier, and serves as an annual reminder of the town’s enduring connection to the sea.
