Cranston police investigate fatal shooting on Legion Way, suspect at large

CRANSTON, R.I. — Cranston police are investigating a homicide after a young man was shot and killed around 9 p.m. at 289 Legion Way.

Initial accounts indicate the victim had opened his apartment door when an unknown individual began firing shots and struck him. He was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The suspect is described only as wearing dark clothing and carrying a backpack. He fled the scene on foot and is believed to be armed.

Residents in the area were urged to shelter in place and call 911 if they see anyone matching the description. Police warn the public not to approach the suspect he is armed and dangerous.
