Rhode Island’s DUI Task Force says the Thanksgiving holiday weekend began with a surge of impaired-driving arrests. In just the first eight hours of enforcement, officers took 21 people into custody on alcohol-related charges.
Police reported that four of those individuals were believed to have been involved in crashes linked to intoxication during that time frame.
Law enforcement agencies will continue heightened patrols and sobriety checks throughout the remainder of the weekend.
The enforcement campaign is supported by a coalition of Rhode Island State Police, city and town police agencies, the state’s Office of Highway Safety, and the Attorney General’s Office.
