DARTMOUTH, M.A. — A Pawtucket boy died Sunday evening after suffering a medical emergency at a beach in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Emergency crews were called to Jones Beach on John Street around 7:30 p.m. for reports of a child in distress. According to investigators, the 9-year-old had been swimming and appeared to be fine when he left the water. Moments later, he became unresponsive.

Bystanders at the beach immediately began performing CPR while waiting for first responders to arrive. The boy was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the circumstances do not appear suspicious, but the incident is still under investigation.
