RHODE ISLAND — The Rhode Island Blood Center has declared a blood emergency in Rhode Island as the state’s supply has dropped below a 2-day inventory, far below the 7-day level needed to meet hospital demands.
With summer vacations and school breaks slowing donations, and trauma cases on the rise, the need is urgent.
Now’s the time to step up and save lives.
Please consider donating, every drop counts.
Blood is essential for surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatments, and chronic illness management. However, it cannot be manufactured—it must come from generous donors. The Rhode Island Blood Center reports that blood donations tend to drop during the summer and holiday months, even as demand remains steady or increases.
Just one pint of donated blood can save up to three lives. And with every type needed—especially O-negative, the universal donor—Rhode Islanders are encouraged to step up and give. Donating takes less than an hour and can make a life-or-death difference for someone in your own community.
Appointments can be made through the Rhode Island Blood Center or at local blood drives hosted by schools, businesses, and community organizations. Whether you’re a first-time donor or a regular, your donation matters now more than ever.
