LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. — Authorities reported the bodies of two fishermen recovered off the Little Compton coast Sunday morning.

Family members have identified the victims as 31-year-old Valdir Centeio and 27-year-old Aldino Centeio, brothers from Stoughton, Massachusetts. They were last seen fishing near the rocks by Warren’s Point Beach Club.

Officials say a third person tried to help the brothers after they entered the water but was unable to rescue them. Multiple departments, including the Coast Guard, DEM, and marine units from Middletown, Tiverton, Newport, and Little Compton, joined in the effort to search both land and sea.

The Coast Guard deployed side-scan sonar during the operation but ended their search Saturday afternoon around 3 p.m. after turning the investigation over to local officials. The brothers were later found near the area where they were last seen.
