JAMESTOWN, R.I. — Authorities are investigating after a body was found on a Jamestown beach.
Police Chief James Campbell said officers and firefighters were called to Heads Beach off Seaside Drive shortly after 7:30 a.m. following a report of the discovery.
According to police, a swimmer spotted the body in the water and asked someone on shore to alert authorities.
The Rhode Island State Police, Department of Environmental Management, and U.S. Coast Guard were all notified. The Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office later arrived to take custody of the body.
This is the fourth body found in Rhode Island waters since this June.
