A multi-state manhunt is underway after investigators obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect believed to be connected to both the Brown University mass shooting and the killing of an MIT professor.
On Thursday evening, multiple law enforcement agencies searched a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire. Providence Police, U.S. Marshals, New Hampshire State Police, FBI agents, and K-9 units were seen at the scene. Authorities have not said what led investigators there, and no arrest has been announced.
Sources say detectives linked the two cases after comparing evidence from the Brown University shooting and the Brookline homicide. The suspect’s name has not been released, and investigators say the person remains at large.
The investigation centers on two violent attacks now believed to be connected.
On Saturday, a gunman opened fire inside the Barus & Holley engineering building at Brown University in Providence, killing two students and injuring nine others. The victims were identified as Ella Cook and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov. Several victims remain hospitalized in stable condition, while others have been released.
On Monday night in Brookline, Massachusetts, Dr. Nuno F.G. Loureiro, an MIT professor and director of the university’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center, was shot outside his home and later died from his injuries.
Investigators have released images of a person of interest seen near Brown University wearing a two-tone coat, face covering, and winter hat. No images from the Brookline shooting have been released.
Authorities say the motive remains unclear. A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI or Providence Police at 401-272-3121.
