COVENTRY, R.I. — A Coventry woman is accused of sending explicit images to her ex-boyfriend’s mother, leading to her arrest on New Year’s Day, according to state police.

The Rhode Island State Police say Stephanie Hopkins, 40, was taken into custody at her Princeton Avenue residence and charged with unauthorized dissemination of indecent material.

Investigators say a North Kingstown man reported that explicit photos and videos of himself were sent to his mother during the early morning hours of January 1. Police allege the images came from a cellphone the man had previously returned to Hopkins without deleting its contents.

During contact with troopers, Hopkins allegedly told police she felt mistreated during the relationship and sent the images as a form of retaliation. Authorities also noted the man involved had been arrested in 2025 on a similar charge that was later resolved in court.

State police confirmed the man’s mother received multiple explicit messages and images, which were reviewed as part of the investigation. Additional evidence was documented during follow-up interviews.

Hopkins’ case is now moving through the court system, with a pretrial conference scheduled for January 27.
