South Kingstown, R.I. – A devastating fire broke out early Tuesday morning at Matunuck Oyster Bar in South Kingstown, causing what appears to be a total loss of the iconic waterfront restaurant. Crews responded to the scene around 3:45 a.m. on Succotash Road.

The restaurant, owned by Perry Raso, has long been a Rhode Island favorite — cherished for its fresh seafood, coastal views, and strong connection to the local community.

Covering this on Memorial Day weekend felt especially strange without the usual buzz around the restaurant. A place that’s typically packed with locals and tourists was eerily quiet. The only people on site were cleanup crews working the damage.

Our thoughts are with Perry and the entire Matunuck team. We’re all hoping for a strong, speedy comeback. The restaurant has a gofundme page as well as the staff of the Matunuck Oyster Bar.
