YouTuber takes over mortgage of ‘The Conjuring’ house

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. — YouTuber Elton Castee has taken control of the mortgage on ‘The Conjuring’ farmhouse. It remains unknown whether or not ownership of the home has changed hands.

The historic home became a global attraction after the 2013 horror film. It was set for a Halloween auction after owner Jacqueline Nuñez fell behind on payments, but the sale was canceled when the lender sold the mortgage privately.

Nuñez has faced disputes with local officials and lost her business license last year. She claims she never received notice of the mortgage sale and says she never had a mortgage, despite town filings showing otherwise.

Land records show the buyer is a real estate company controlled by Castee, who previously expressed interest in the property alongside comedian Matt Rife.

Jason Hawes, star of Syfy’s Ghost Hunters, has been fundraising to buy the home and says he remains confident despite Castee’s move. To take ownership, Castee would need Nuñez to sign the deed, or the property could return to auction under Rhode Island law.

The farmhouse has been controversial for over a year. Nuñez turned it into a paranormal tourist attraction and faced legal issues with former employees. Hawes has accused her of harassment, while Nuñez claimed he tried to assassinate her.
