CRANSTON, R.I. — A fireman rescued a woman from her car Tuesday evening after getting stuck in a downpour near the Oaklawn Bridge. Heavy rain at this section of Oaklawn Avenue is known to cause flooding, frustrating residents.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m., following a sudden downpour that drenched parts of Cranston and overwhelmed drainage systems. Emergency crews arrived on scene to find the woman stranded inside her vehicle, unable to exit due to rapidly rising water.

Cranston firefighters acted quickly, with one firefighter seen carrying the woman to safety through knee-deep floodwaters on Oaklawn Avenue.
