Rhode Island: Speaking at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, Raimondo told David Axelrod, “if I think there’s a big way for me to serve again — including running — I’ll do it.”

Raimondo added: “If I thought somebody else would be better, or better able to win, I’d get behind that person in a minute.”

Raimondo, who served as governor from 2015 to 2021, is one of the first Democrats to publicly acknowledge interest in a potential 2028 campaign. She was appointed Secretary of Commerce by President Joe Biden and stepped down earlier this year.

“I care deeply about this country. I’ve dedicated 15 years to public service,” she said.

Raimondo also discussed challenges facing the Democratic Party:
“There’s so much to do. I don’t know how many cycles it’s gonna take. There’s a reason there were a dozen years between Carter and Clinton. And I don’t know where we are in that cycle,” she said.

Since leaving the Biden administration, Raimondo has joined the Council on Foreign Relations as a distinguished fellow.
