PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Thomas “Tommy” Geruso, an assistant principal at Shea High School in Pawtucket, remains in critical but stable condition following the mass shooting at Dennis M. Lynch Arena on February 16. Geruso is undergoing ongoing surgeries after being seriously injured during the attack.
Geruso, a North Smithfield native who lives in North Providence, was one of three people wounded during the tragedy at the Pawtucket ice rink. Authorities said the shooting occurred during a crowded Senior Night high school hockey game when Robert Dorgan, 56, also known as Roberta Esposito, opened fire on family members in the stands before taking his own life.
Two victims, Rhonda Dorgan, 52, and her son Aidan Dorgan, 23, were killed. Geruso’s injuries are severe, and he continues to receive intensive care.
In a statement, the Geruso family expressed gratitude to first responders, medical teams, and the local community for their support. “What was meant to be a celebration of youth hockey has instead become one of the most devastating days of our lives,” the family said. They credited medical crews for their skill and urgency, which gives them hope for Tommy’s recovery.
Geruso’s son, Gian Geruso, shared his emotional response on social media, saying, “Nothing prepares you to see your dad fighting for his life. He has always fought for the people he loves. Now he’s fighting for his own life.”
The family added that Tommy had close ties with Rhonda Dorgan and her family and will now face the emotional aftermath of the tragedy.
