BRISTOL, R.I. — Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, a 13-year-old from Texas who’s been battling cancer since 2018, was sworn in as an honorary police officer by over 30 law enforcement agencies from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He and his father Theodis moved the entire crowd with their presence, their positivity, and their mission.

Earlier in the evening, DJ enjoyed a Del’s Lemonade, greeted locals with hugs and high-fives, and even received a kiss on the cheek from one woman who told him, “You’re in my prayers.”

When we asked him what he liked most about Rhode Island, he smiled and said: “The ocean, the boats, the weather isn’t too hot… and the people.”

DJ has now been sworn in by thousands of departments across the country. Back in 2018, doctors gave him just five months to live — but he’s defied every odd with strength, hope, and a mission to serve.

Next up? DJ told us he’s headed to Florida, where he’ll be honored by over 50 more police departments. DJ Daniel has been sworn in as an honorary officer for more than 1,300 law enforcement agencies across the country.

We mentioned he should come back for the Fourth of July Parade — but he smiled and said he’d be out of the country being honored once again.
