PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Following this morning’s funeral Mass for Judge Frank Caprio, the beloved jurist received a heartfelt farewell in the neighborhood where his life began.
Caprio’s funeral procession made its way down Atwells Avenue in Federal Hill, the vibrant Providence neighborhood where Caprio grew up. As the cortege passed, businesses and residents paused to pay tribute, many displaying his photographs in their windows and on sidewalks. Others lined the sidewalks in silence, some holding flags or bowing their heads, offering a final gesture of respect to the man known as “The Nicest Judge in the World”.

The scene reflected both a personal and communal loss across Rhode Island. For many in the Ocean State, Caprio was more than a television figure, he was a neighbor, a mentor, and a symbol of fairness and compassion.

The quiet procession through Federal Hill followed a Mass at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, attended by hundreds. Judge Caprio was later laid to rest during a private burial at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.

Caprio, who died on August 20 at the age of 88, spent decades on the bench in Providence and rose to international prominence through his show Caught in Providence, where his blend of empathy and justice earned him fans around the world.

Today, the streets of Federal Hill, where his journey began, offered him one final, solemn goodbye.
