PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A public tribute to Judge Frank Caprio is now on display at the Rhode Island State House. His portrait is featured in the rotunda, along with a condolence book for the community to share their memories. The tribute runs from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Last week, thousands gathered at the Rhode Island Convention Center for a public showing. Governor McKee also ordered U.S. and Rhode Island flags to be flown at half-staff until last Friday
Judge Caprio, remembered worldwide for his compassion and humanity on the bench, passed away on August 20 at the age of 88. A funeral Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Richard Henning of Boston, was held last Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence, followed by a private burial.
The funeral procession traveled along Atwells Avenue in Federal Hill, the lively Providence neighborhood where he was raised. As the cortege passed, residents and businesses paused to honor his memory, many displaying his photographs in windows or along the street. Others stood in silence, some holding flags or bowing their heads, offering a final tribute to the man remembered worldwide as “The Nicest Judge in the World.”
