Matunuck Oyster Bar caught fire

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Matunuck Oyster Bar caught fire Tuesday morning at its location on Succotash Road, causing damage to the upper level of the building just days before the busy Memorial Day weekend.

Fire crews responded around 3:45 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and visible flames. Strong winds made it more difficult for firefighters to contain the blaze, prompting a call for mutual aid from surrounding departments.

Much of the visible damage appeared to be concentrated at the top of the restaurant. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
