CRANSTON, R.I. — Olneyville New York System in Cranston just got approval for a local liquor license, meaning beer is officially on the menu (as long as you order food with it, of course).
The city’s Safety Services & Licenses Committee gave the green light Monday night, but made it clear: no food, no booze. All staff must also be T.I.P.S. certified before alcohol can be served.
The new owners, Heritage Restaurant Group also operate a Newport-based brewery and plan to feature their locally crafted beer at the Cranston spot.
The win in Cranston comes just a month after the Providence City Council denied a similar alcohol request for Olneyville System’s original location on Plainfield Street.
So now the Cranston location is moving forward — hot wieners, coffee milk, and soon… cold beer on tap.
What do you think? Is liquor a welcome upgrade for the iconic Rhode Island eatery — or does it mess with tradition? Let us know in the comments 👇
