PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island has been ranked the 3rd least hard-working state in America, landing at #48 out of 50 in a new WalletHub study.
Top States: North Dakota (#1), Alaska (#2), and South Dakota (#3)
Bottom States: Rhode Island (#48), West Virginia (#49) and Michigan (#50)
Rhode Island was the lowest-ranked state in all of New England, finishing well behind Massachusetts (#38) and Connecticut (#29).
Rhode Island tied for 47th in average workweek hours and placed 48th in volunteer hours, but there was one bright spot, the state tied for 2nd lowest idle youth rate, showing young people are more likely to be in school or working.
The study paints a mixed picture: while Rhode Islanders log fewer hours and volunteer less, the state’s youth engagement stands out nationally.
