Governor Dan McKee’s approval rating falls to 19%

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A new University of New Hampshire poll shows Gov. Dan McKee’s approval rating has fallen to just 19%, down from 23% in March. Meanwhile, 71% of Rhode Island voters disapprove of the job he’s doing.

Looking ahead to the 2026 election, only 11% of voters believe McKee should run again, while 74% say he does not.

Who Do Voters Want in 2026?
The poll also asked about interest in other potential candidates:
    •    32% of voters say they definitely or probably want Helena Foulkes to run
    •    26% are opposed
    •    42% remain undecided

Among past statewide candidates:
    •    23% say they’re open to Ashley Kalus, the 2022 Republican nominee
    •    Just 19% are open to a return by former Gov. Gina Raimondo

Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Jack Reed appears on steadier ground:
    •    54% say he deserves reelection
    •    33% say he does not

Trump in RI:
    •    37% approve of his job performance
    •    61% disapprove (up from 40% in March)
