Rhode Island is preparing for another round of winter weather on Sunday as a storm is expected to bring accumulating snow across the state. According to the National Weather Service Boston, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect statewide from Sunday morning into Sunday night.
Snow is expected to begin late Sunday morning or early afternoon, becoming steadier as the day goes on. The most impactful period is forecast for late Sunday afternoon into the evening, when snowfall rates could increase and travel conditions may deteriorate.
Most areas of Rhode Island are expected to see 3–4 inches of snow, with 4–6 inches possible in some areas of the state. Snow is expected to taper off late Sunday night, with conditions gradually improving after midnight.
Officials are urging drivers to use caution, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours when snowfall rates may increase and visibility could be reduced. Roads could become slick quickly as temperatures remain cold throughout the day, making untreated surfaces hazardous. Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time and stay updated on changing conditions as the storm moves through the region.
For football fans, the National Weather Service Boston says snow could be falling for most of the Patriots game at Gillette Stadium, with the potential for heavier snowfall during the second half as the storm intensifies Sunday evening.
