Rhode Island will keep its sports betting monopoly — at least for now. The state’s only legal option, Sportsbook Rhode Island (run by IGT), will remain the sole provider.
A bill to end the monopoly and bring in competition like FanDuel and DraftKings passed the Senate but never made it out of a House committee. Lawmakers reportedly didn’t want to interfere with the existing 20-year contract, which runs until 2026.
This single-operator setup isn’t unique — other states like Florida, Oregon, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Montana also limit sports betting to just one provider.
Unless things change, Rhode Island’s monopoly will likely hold until the IGT contract expires.
