WARWICK, R.I. — Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport has been voted the best airport in America by Travel + Leisure readers, a first-time honor for the small but mighty airport in Warwick.
Praised for its easy access, simple layout, and stress-free travel experience, T.F. Green (PVD) edged out larger airports thanks to features like convenient parking, fast-moving security lines, and a compact design that allows passengers to breeze through check-in and boarding. One reader noted it was “worth the drive” just to avoid the chaos of larger airports.
While Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport moved over 108 million passengers in 2024, T.F. Green served just over 4 million — a fraction of the traffic, but a huge win in traveler satisfaction.
The award is based on feedback from thousands of Travel + Leisure readers who rated U.S. airports on accessibility, design, food and shopping options, and overall experience.
This top ranking follows recent accolades: T.F. Green was recently named the fastest-growing hub airport in New England and the fastest-growing major airport in the U.S.
But behind the accolades, the airport has not been without controversy. President and CEO Iftikhar Ahmad has faced mounting criticism in recent years. Reports have surfaced of staff turnover, tensions with airline partners, and questions about executive compensation and management style. Despite the recognition, some industry insiders have raised concerns about long-term leadership stability at the airport.
Still, for now, T.F. Green can celebrate being number one, a rare national spotlight for a Rhode Island institution.
