PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Thousands of people gathered today to honor the life and legacy of Judge Frank Caprio, lining up at the Rhode Island Convention Center for his public visitation and remembrance ceremony.
The hall was filled with mourners from across the state and around the world, a reflection of the compassion and kindness that made Caprio a beloved figure far beyond the courtroom. Known to many as “The Nicest Judge in the World”, he touched lives both in person and through the television program Caught in Providence, where his empathy and humor turned ordinary cases into extraordinary moments of humanity.
Family members have been welcoming the public throughout the afternoon and into the evening, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support. Many attendees shared personal stories of how Caprio’s fairness and generosity had impacted them directly, while others came simply to say goodbye to a man whose approach to justice had inspired millions.
Several businesses in Judge Caprio’s hometown neighborhood of Federal Hill in Providence paid tribute to the beloved Rhode Island judge by displaying his photographs in their windows.
Tomorrow, a mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul in Providence, followed by a private burial.
Judge Caprio, who passed away at 88 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, leaves behind a legacy of compassion, fairness, and a deep belief in the dignity of every individual.
