PAWTUCKET – As demolition crews work to clear the site of the former McCoy Stadium—future home of the new Pawtucket High School—an 85-year-old time capsule has been unearthed from the stadium’s original cornerstone.

The discovery was made by Shawmut Design and Construction, the firm leading the redevelopment project. City officials announced that the capsule will be opened during a special event on June 23, 2025—a date chosen to mark the 44th anniversary of the conclusion of the longest game in professional baseball history, which was played at McCoy Stadium.

Crews are now continuing their search for a second time capsule believed to be tied to that legendary 33-inning game.
More details about the June 23 unveiling will be announced soon.
