KINGSTON, R.I. — The University of Rhode Island (URI) has named Colleen Mullen as the new head coach of its women’s basketball program, turning to an experienced leader to continue the team’s recent success.
New leadership for Rams program
Mullen takes over following the departure of former head coach Tammi Reiss, who recently accepted a position with the University of Florida.
URI Athletic Director Pat Lyons praised the hire, calling Mullen a strong leader with a track record of developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
Focus on continued success
Lyons said Mullen’s experience and ability to connect with players will help keep the program competitive in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
He added that her coaching record and leadership qualities made her a strong fit to guide the Rams moving forward.
Building on recent momentum
Mullen steps into the role after a successful stretch for URI women’s basketball, including a recent NCAA Tournament appearance under Reiss.
The expectation is that she will build on that momentum and keep the program among the top teams in the conference.
