WARWICK, R.I. — A woman is facing charges after police say she left several dogs outside in sweltering conditions on Wednesday. One dog died from extreme heat exposure.
According to Warwick police, 52-year-old Rosemyne Mazile was charged with one felony count of unnecessary cruelty to animals resulting in death, along with two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. Investigators say the dogs were left without adequate shelter during a period of extreme heat, and one did not survive.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and are using the case as a reminder of the dangers hot weather poses to pets.
In extreme heat, pet owners are urged to:
• Keep dogs indoors with air conditioning or fans when possible
• Ensure fresh, cool water is always available
• Limit walks to early morning or evening hours
• Never leave animals in parked vehicles
• Provide shade and ventilation if pets must be outside
If you suspect an animal is in distress due to the heat, contact your local animal control or police department immediately.
