Woman accused of child endangerment after overdosing; child had to give her Narcan

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A Portsmouth woman has been charged with child endangerment after police say her 10-year-old child called 911 to report a medical emergency.

Police responded to the home on Park Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday where officers said they found signs of drug overdoses and various unsecured narcotics inside the home.

Investigators say the child had used Narcan to revive the woman, later identified as 44-year-old Lauren Nortz.

Authorities noted the child had previously been taught how to use the medication by a relative.

According to police, Nortz admitted to drug use and that the drugs and paraphernalia inside the residence, and accessible to children.

She was released on $2,000 surety bail and ordered to have no contact with the child. The Department of Children, Youth, and Families is now involved in the case.

Nortz is scheduled for arraignment on June 12.
