PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The woman charged in the death of Roderick MacLeod this weekend appeared in court Thursday.
Shannon Godbout, 41, has an extensive criminal history of more than 100 prior arrests. Despite having received 40 traffic citations over the years, Godbout had an active license at the time of this weekends crash.
Police allege Godbout was driving on Spring Street around 7:30 a.m. Saturday when they say she went off the road, hitting a man walking his dog before crashing into two utility poles.
The victim, Roderick “Rory” MacLeod, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
MacLeod, a beloved figure in Rhode Island’s music community, was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2012 for his role as a member of the Grammy-nominated band Roomful of Blues.
Godbout was arraigned on charges of:
- Driving to endanger resulting in death
- Possession of narcotics with intent to deliver
She was ordered held without bail following her arraignment.
