WOONSOCKET, R.I. — A heartbreaking scene unfolded in the Fairmount neighborhood of Woonsocket on Thursday evening when a boy was fatally struck by an SUV near Dunn Park.

The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Mason Street and 10th Avenue. Witnesses reported a heavy emergency response as first responders quickly arrived on scene.

The SUV involved in the crash was later seen being taken away on a flatbed as police continued their investigation. The area remained blocked off for several hours as authorities worked to piece together what led to the tragic accident.

Police have not yet released the child’s identity, and the investigation is ongoing.

Thursday’s tragic crash that claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy near Dunn Park marks the second deadly child pedestrian accident in Woonsocket in five months.

Back on January 27, 4-year-old Eliza Khan was fatally struck while walking with her mother near Hamlet Middle School. Both heartbreaking incidents have shaken the community and raised serious concerns about pedestrian safety.
