PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Police have reported that two people are dead and nine are critically injured yet stable after a shooting at Brown University Saturday afternoon. The victims, all students, were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, which is the only Level 1 trauma center in the area. Since their arrival the hospital has been placed on lockdown.

There is heavy police presence in the area as police search for the shooter or shooters. As a result there has been issued a shelter in place for the great Brown University area.

FBI Director Kash Patel has confirmed the FBI is on the scene.

Early alerts from the university warned of an active shooter reported near the Barus & Holley Engineering building at 184 Hope Street, which triggered the initial lockdown and emergency response.

The Providence Place Mall has been closed in response to the manhunt.
