WARWICK, R.I. — A tense situation unfolded Thursday morning as Warwick police responded to a barricade incident on Washington Street.

Officers were initially called to the residence for a well-being check, but the scene quickly escalated when it was believed the individual inside may be armed. According to eyewitness accounts and video footage, a large police presence swarmed the neighborhood, including tactical units. A drone was also deployed to monitor the situation from above.

The roadway remains shut down between Tyler Street and Atlantic Avenue as officers continue negotiations and secure the area. Authorities have not released further details on the identity of the person inside or any injuries.
