A Providence man was arrested in Connecticut on weapons charges following a reported kidnapping in Rhode Island.

Connecticut police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Angel Martinez of Providence.

A “be on the lookout” was broadcast on Thursday just before 2 p.m. about an alleged armed kidnapping that happened in Providence.

In a report by the Connecticut State Police, the BOLO was for a grey Jeep with RI plates. Soon after troopers began to comb I-95 S to locate the vehicle.

After dispatchers located the vehicle pinging in the Madison, Connecticut area, a trooper located the Jeep at the Madison rest area.

According to Connecticut State Police, the passenger was positively identified as the alleged victim in the Providence incident.

Police reported that they found a loaded 9mm handgun in the vehicle.

Martinez was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

He was held on a $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear at New Haven Superior Court on Thursday.
