Body recovered from Georgiaville Pond in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — A 31-year-old man who went missing while swimming at Georgiaville Pond Tuesday evening has been found dead, according to officials.

Emergency crews were called to the pond around 9 p.m. after the man’s friends realized he had disappeared. They had reportedly been at the beach for several hours before noticing he was gone.

At the time, Smithfield divers were assisting in a separate search for a missing swimmer at Lincoln Woods. The man’s body was recovered from the water within 25 minutes of the search beginning.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity. The incident remains under investigation.

This marks the second drowning reported on Tuesday, following the recovery of another swimmer’s body at Lincoln Woods. Officials are urging everyone to use caution when swimming, swim in areas with lifeguards
