PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A new capybara resident at Roger Williams Park Zoo is already winning over visitors while settling into a fresh start.

Capybaras are known for being highly social animals, but Carsie is currently living on his own for his safety. Zoo officials say he was previously bullied and injured while living with other capybaras, leaving him fearful of being in a group setting.
For now, staff are keeping a close eye on his well-being and exploring alternative companionship options that would be a better fit for him.
Despite his past, Carsie is doing well. He’s becoming more comfortable in his habitat and is starting to build trust with his keepers.
Visitors can find Carsie in the Faces of the Rainforest exhibit, where he continues to adjust and settle into life at the zoo.
Zoo officials say they’ll continue to share updates as Carsie gets more comfortable in his new environment.
