COVENTRY, R.I. — A 62-year-old woman was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly bringing suspected fentanyl into a local police station to make a complaint about the drugs she had purchased.
According to police, Gloria Tiberi walked into the Coventry Police Department during the early morning hours of May 29 seeking to file a complaint.
Investigators said Tiberi was upset because the substance she bought appeared to be fentanyl rather than the cocaine she believed she had purchased.
Officers took possession of the substance and conducted what police described as a “quality control check.” The material later tested presumptively positive for fentanyl, which is classified as a controlled substance.
Tiberi was then taken into custody and held overnight pending her arraignment.
Police said she later appeared before a judge in 3rd District Court on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, 10 grams or less. She pleaded not guilty and was granted $1,000 surety bail.
Authorities also presented Tiberi before Superior Court as an alleged bail violator connected to a previous case involving narcotics charges.
In a statement posted online, Coventry police said that anyone dissatisfied with recent drug purchases could provide information anonymously through the department’s Tips@coventrypd.org email.
