CRANSTON, R.I. — A key highway on-ramp in Cranston officially reopens, restoring access for drivers after a temporary shutdown tied to ongoing road work.
The ramp had been closed since April 24 after part of the parapet and an electrification safety shield came loose and dropped onto the tracks below. Amtrak service was suspended until the next afternoon while crews cleared the debris.
State transportation officials say the reopening should ease congestion for commuters who rely on the route, particularly during peak travel hours.
The closure had forced drivers to take alternate routes, adding delays in and around the Cranston area. With the ramp now back in service, traffic patterns are expected to return to normal.
