Crews from the Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Vermont Departments of Transportation are in Rhode Island to assist with massive snow removal efforts as Southern New England continues to recover from a blizzard that dumped nearly three feet of snow across the region.
The out-of-state support comes as local resources remain stretched, particularly in residential neighborhoods where heavy drifts and narrowed roadways are slowing cleanup. While highways and main roads are largely clear, many side streets remain difficult to navigate.
Earlier in the week, additional plows and heavy equipment arrived from Vermont to reinforce local crews. In Providence, members of the Rhode Island National Guard have been deployed to help clear sidewalks and assist in densely packed areas hit hardest by the storm.
State and municipal leaders are also working to secure private contractors to accelerate the reopening of side streets. With reinforcements now coming from Pennsylvania, officials hope the added manpower and equipment will help communities return to normal more quickly.
