BOSTON, M.A. — A 47-year-old East Providence man is turning heads after completing the Boston Marathon in a full suit and tie, finishing with a time of 4 hours and 41 minutes.
Maurice Lowman ran all 26.2 miles dressed in a two-piece suit, using it to send a message bigger than the race itself.
“The logic behind the suit is that there are people facing much bigger challenges than me wearing a suit for 26 miles. It’s a ‘hey, look at me,’ but also a ‘hey, look at what you can do.’”
His journey to the starting line was not easy. Last August, he suffered a stress fracture in his foot. He attempted the Chicago Marathon in October before fully healing, which led to a second fracture. He was not cleared to run again until February.
Now more than 11 years clean and sober, Lowman once walked these same Boston streets while battling substance abuse and homelessness. This week, he ran them.
Lowman has rebuilt his life and recently landed his dream job with Mercedes-Benz in Tiverton.
We’ve been following his journey from the start, and it’s been incredible to watch it all come together. If you’re looking for real positivity and motivation, he’s someone you’ll want to follow. Huge congratulations — we couldn’t be more proud of him.
