NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A GoFundMe has been launched for the surviving Dorgan siblings after their mother and brother were killed in Monday’s deadly shooting at a Pawtucket ice rink, a tragedy that has drawn widespread support across Rhode Island and beyond.
The fundraiser was created for Ava and Colin Dorgan, who lost their mother, Rhonda Dorgan, 52, and their 23 year old brother, Aidan, during the family related shooting inside Dennis M. Lynch Arena.
Authorities say the father, Robert Dorgan, 56, who also went by Roberta Esposito, opened fire on relatives seated in the stands during a crowded Senior Night high school hockey game before dying from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Two other family members remain in critical condition.
Family members said Ava, a nursing student, and Colin, a 17 year old high school senior, are now facing life without their parents and older brother while trying to continue their education and rebuild their future.
The GoFundMe states the siblings will need assistance with basic living expenses and schooling costs following the loss of their family. Donations and messages of support have poured in from the local community and the hockey world in the days since the shooting.
The Dorgan family is from North Providence. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
