NEWPORT, R.I. — Hotel Viking is preparing for a major transformation as the nearly 100-year-old property moves forward with plans to overhaul its restaurants, rooftop spaces, and guest experience ahead of its centennial celebration.
The historic Newport hotel, which first opened in 1926, has been undergoing large-scale renovations aimed at modernizing the property while preserving its longstanding identity in the city’s hospitality scene.
New food and drink concepts planned
When the hotel reopens in early May, guests will find four fresh dining and bar experiences across the property: Pescadou, a French Riviera-inspired seafood restaurant; Cap Club, a tropical rooftop bar; Skoal Room, a classic cocktail lounge; and Tuck Shop, a café located inside the lobby.
The changes are part of a broader effort to make the property a larger destination for dining, nightlife, and social gatherings throughout the year.
Redesign inspired by coastal luxury
The renovation draws inspiration from coastal destinations in southern Europe, blending brighter interiors and upscale finishes with Newport’s traditional New England style.
Updated guest rooms, refreshed gathering areas, redesigned patios, and upgraded public spaces are also included in the overhaul.
Landmark approaching 100 years
Hotel Viking has remained one of Newport’s best-known luxury properties for decades, located near Bellevue Avenue and many of the city’s famous mansions and attractions.
As the centennial approaches in 2026, hotel leaders are positioning the property for a new era while continuing to build on its long history in Newport tourism.
The renovation comes as Newport continues to see growing demand for luxury travel, dining, and hospitality experiences.
